This synthetic stone is a human creation, characterized by high density and intense brilliance. It replaces diamond, imitating it, but without ever becoming its equal...
Not to be confused with:
Zircon
Natural zirconium silicate found as tetragonal crystals. This brown stone has a hardness coefficient of 7.5.
As a technical application, it is used to manufacture china and enamel. This stone also closely resembles diamond. It is also found as a hyacinth in its brown varieties, though there are also green ones.
Zircon deposits are located in brazil, India, Egypt, Australia and Florida. Like diamond, it mainly comes from Sri Lanka.
Zirconium
The chemical element Zr with a metallic look. Zirconium belongs to the titanium group (with hafnium). Because of its high fusing point and its ability not to absorb slow neutrons, zirconium is put to use in nuclear reactors. Zirconium is a component of magnetic steel. Zirconium compounds are used in the manufacture of refracting crucibles as a component of fluoridated glass.
