Garnet is silica, just like emerald or topaz. Usually it exhibits a splendid red colour reminding of the pomegranate. But it can have other colours, except blue It will then be named differently from the red garnet: the orange variety is the Hessonite Garnet, the Tsavorite when it is green and the Pyrope when it is pink.
